I created my Medium account in 2018. Over the past two years, I’ve used this space to theorize and explore issues of race, gender, oppression, and media representation. I’m grateful to everyone who tuned in to read every story. Who shared my words with their own community, or who lovingly pushed back on some spicier things I wrote. I appreciate you all.
As we all know, 2020 has been a year. Mandatory shutdowns and stay-at-home orders have forced me to do some soul-searching. I’ve really had to prioritize what I wanted to do with my life and my resources. Unfortunately, that soul-searching has led me to step away from Medium. As of now, I’m unsure if I’ll write on this platform consistently in the future.
I’m very proud of the work I’ve done and the results I’ve gotten. In this year alone, I’ve accumulated around 400 followers and 40,000 views with my writing. I’m grateful to both An Injustice! and Breakthrough for adding me as a writer and expanding my reach.
Just because I’m stepping away from Medium doesn’t mean I’m stepping away from writing. I’m currently working on my debut novel exploring how society systemically fails Black girls in the Deep South. I’m providing updates about my journey on Twitter: https://twitter.com/leahnwhitcomb
I’m also the co-creator and co-host of a biweekly podcast, Hoodoo Plant Mamas, where we discuss Black spirituality, the Deep South, pop culture, and plants. We recently finished our first season. It’s available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and Stitcher.
Again, I thank you all for supporting me and my writing. I do not take your support lightly.
I wish you well.
