Medium Update

Hey everyone,

I occasionally get notifications that some of you engaged with my past work and even started following me. For those who are new, hi. I’m Leah — a community storyteller focused on sharing social commentary through accessible writing. That was my goal with my Medium page when I posted regularly from 2018–2021, but recently I’ve been kind of MIA.

Since 2021, I’ve decided to take some of my writing offline. Older followers can probably see that one of their favorite Medium articles is no longer available, but as a result of that I’ve now written over four books. My debut collection Apocalypse Still has much of the same biting commentary I discussed on this page — critiques of capitalism, race, gender, and the US government as a whole. It is available now through most major booksellers.

Apocalypse Still explores the fears, rage, and hopes of Black women and girls who must address the defeating circumstances of their apocalyptic worlds. In these ten earth-shattering scenarios, young Black women question how to survive, what they believe, and who to trust.

This speculative fiction collection weaves the grotesque and the beautiful, the extraordinary and the mundane together in these tender tales of community, ancestral gifts, and the lengths we go through to survive.

If you are interested in ordering a copy, I’ll include links below. You can also request the book through your local library if they use Overdrive/Libby.

As for me, if you’d like to keep updated on my thoughts and ramblings, I’m over on Substack. My newsletter Little Sunday Sermons sends a heart offering every first Sunday of the month. If you want to hear me talk about Black culture, spirituality, and community, I co-host a podcast, Hoodoo Plant Mamas. We recently started Season 7 earlier this month.

No promises I will post regularly on Medium again. I hope y’all will join me in the spaces I’ve migrated to. If this is the end of the line for us, thank you for your support. It means the world to me when y’all listen and engage with what I have to say.

Thank you for reading!
Leah
